Recreational Fires and Open Fires

There are two types of controlled fires, recreational fires and open burning.

 Fires can only burn between 4 p.m.-1 a.m.

√ The fire can be no larger than three (3) feet in diameter measured from the inside of the fire ring.

√ The fire ring should be completely surrounded by noncombustible and non-smoke or odor-producing material either of natural rock, cement, brick, tile, blocks or ferrous metal only.

√ Use only clean, dry wood and do not burn leaves.

√ The fire ring must be depressed below ground, on the ground or on a raised bed.

√ The height of the fire should be no more than three (3) feet.

√ The fire cannot be within twenty-five (25) feet of any structure.

√ The fire should produce little detectable smoke, soot or odor beyond the property line.

√ The fire must be extinguished completely when it is done being used and a device for doing so should be at the fire scene such as an extinguisher, sand or a hose.

Please remember to be courteous of your neighbors when enjoying your recreational fire and to follow all burning bans.

Open Burning
An open burn is a fire that is larger than three (3) feet in diameter and three (3) feet in height and requires a burning permit. A burning permit can be obtained from the Centennial Fire Department at 651- 784-7472.
